Jesse Eisenberg and Jeremy Irons Join “Man of Steel 2” Cast

Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Jesse Eisenberg and Jeremy Irons will be joining the cast in Zack Snyder’s highly anticipated “Man of Steel” sequel, tentatively titled “Batman vs. Superman”. A few months ago the internet nearly broke when we found out that Ben Affleck had been selected to star as the next Batman. Since then the web has been buzzing with rumors and speculations about the film and who else will be involved with the project. We now have more official information to fan the flame.

Following the announcement of the sequel at last years’ San Diego Comic-Con it was all but certain that Lex Luthor would be making an appearance in the film, causing trouble for our hero. We now know for certain that Academy-Award winning actor, Jesse Eisenberg has been selected to portray Superman’s arch nemesis, Lex Luthor. Here’s what Snyder had to say about the character and his casting decision.

“Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940.  What’s great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain.  He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman.  Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.”

We also found out that Academy-Award winning actor Jeremy Irons will take on the role as Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s well-established confidant. Over the years there have been many portrayals of the character, most recently played by Michael Kane is Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight” trilogy. When announcing the fresh take on the character Zack Snyder stated:

“As everyone knows, Alfred is Bruce Wayne’s most trusted friend, ally and mentor, a noble guardian and father figure.  He is an absolutely critical element in the intricate infrastructure that allows Bruce Wayne to transform himself into Batman.  It is an honor to have such an amazingly seasoned and gifted actor as Jeremy taking on the important role of the man who mentors and guides the guarded and nearly impervious façade that encapsulates Bruce Wayne.”

With the recent announcement that the film will be pushed back from its original 2015 release date, its reassuring to know that the project remains in full swing. The film is set to open worldwide on May 6, 2016. Check back soon for more news and updates about this highly anticipated sequel.
